General Description of Los Gigantes
Really a pair of villages, Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago. Some care has been exercised in the creation of Los Gigantes, a well-established, leafy town with a compact, restaurant-lined plaza, situated across a small bay from the "giants" – the dramatic cliffs that shelter the resort and give it its name. It measures around ½ ml across and 800 yds from the top of the cliff down to the small marina, following a steep road which loops a winding course through the town. Puerto de Santiago, 1¼ mls to the South, is a hilly resort on the top of the cliff with a rather chaotic layout and difficult parking; the original fishing village nestles in an inlet below.
Market/Suitability
Relaxed and low key, for more discerning couples and families.

Location: At the West end of the South West coast. 20 miles North West of Playa de las Americas, 35 miles North West of the airport by good road most of the way.
Position: On steeply sloping terrain, backed by a mountain and sheltered by huge black cliffs, which provide protection and stunning views; reached via a narrow, serpentine road winding down to the coast.

Accommodation
Mainly high-density, low-rise apartments and hotels, some of which are tiered down the cliff side. Most apartment blocks are small and quite well designed. A couple of good-quality hotels.
Beach
Playa los Guios at Los Gigantes is horseshoe shaped with black volcanic sand; there can be some strong undercurrents. Public bathing is available at Oasis Lido. Playa de la Arena, to the South of the resort, has black sand, a palm-lined promenade and good public toilets/changing rooms. Popular with locals at weekends.
Shopping
A limited choice, but adequate for most needs.
Entertainment
Daytime: mainly beach and lido based; some water sports including diving centre; exploring the striking, stark hinterland; catamaran trips to see dolphins and whales; boat trips; sports centre with tennis courts.
Nightlife: limited but expanding, centred on the newer area of Los Gigantes.
Eating Out
Ample choice, though scattered over a wide area.
Public Transport
Bus to Playa de las Americas every ½ hr and to Puerto de la Cruz every 2 hrs.
