General Description of Soll
An informal, unsophisticated village with a history going back 1,000 years, although the first tourists didn't arrive until the 1950s. It has a pretty, pedestrianised centre and an impressive, onion-domed, 18th-century church which dominates the largely low-rise skyline. The main concentration of buildings fans back for around ½ ml from the N side of the main road which runs through the village, with most of the ski- and sports facilities located on the S side.

Market/Suitability
A firm favourite with the British. Still popular with the young and energetic due to very lively apres ski venues, but it has a good family feel, too; children are well catered for. Reasonable prices attract beginners; intermediates and advanced skiers have easy access to the "Ski-Welt" (Ski World) Wilder Kaiser, one of the largest connected ski-areas in Austria.

Location: In W Austria, in the NE of the Tyrol region. 67 mls SW of Salzburg. 43 mls NE of Innsbruck; 46 mls NE of its airport. 67 mls SE of Munich (Germany) and its airport.

Varies from small, informal B&Bs to middle-range traditional hotels and a few newer, more sophisticated offerings, nearly all built in traditional chalet style. 

Shopping
A good variety of souvenir and sports shops plus a few high-quality clothes shops. Plenty of supermarkets for its size.

Entertainment
Daytime: winter activities include ice-skating on the lake, snowshoeing, hiking, snowbiking, curling, sleigh rides, winter walking, tobogganing; also a swimming pool and leisure centre offering sauna, massage, solarium, Turkish bath; squash courts; bowling. In summer, tennis, asphalt curling, golf, minigolf, lake bathing, fishing, horse riding, paragliding, hang-gliding.
Nightlife: a large choice of informal bars for relaxing apres-ski but only a few genuine "hot spots"; folklore evenings; fondues. Floodlit tobogganing and skiing.

Eating Out
Lots of choice and variety from pizza to traditional local dishes and gourmet restaurants.

Public Transport
A good, free local ski-bus service serves all areas of the village. The ski-bus to all "Ski-Welt" resorts is included in its lift pass. A regular post-bus serves the neighbouring villages and towns of Worgl and Kufstein. Nearest train stations in Kufstein, Worgl or St Johann, 10 mls. Reasonably priced local taxis.

Local Excursions
Winter excursions are limited to city visits to Salzburg, Innsbruck (including the crystal works in Wattens) and Munich. In summer, full-day excursions include the above, plus Venice and Lake Garda; Vienna; the historic town of Rattenberg; Tratzberg Castle; nearby silver and salt mines; Eagle's Nest, a 6,000-ft-high alpine viewing point; Lake Chiemsee (Germany); Salzkammergut lake district; Brenner Pass and Italy; Grossglockner high alpine pass; Krimml Waterfall; Lake Achen.
